Dr. Werley is a former Principal Scientist for Philip Morris and research authority in toxicological assessment of industrial chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer products. His expertise has been instrumental in the evaluation and ongoing development of currently marketed pharmaceuticals, combusted and inhaled vapor, and aerosol products. He has authored and co-authored hundreds of proprietary scientific technical reports, reviews and scientific papers, including several published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and used in regulatory submissions. He is a participant in the American College of Toxicology, a member of the Society of Toxicology, and a 20-year Diplomate member of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT 1993-2023), and held research positions at Temple University, Union Carbide (later DOW), Battelle Health Sciences, Philip Morris, Chrysalis Technologies, and Altria.

His research programs are multi-million dollar enterprises that have spawned numerous commercial products and devices available in the marketplace today. Dr. Werley holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Physiology/Biophysics, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmacology/Toxicology
